Simone Biles Dominates on Day 1 at Nationals

Simone Biles wasted no time establishing control over the field at the U.S. Nationals. Thrilling the crowd with her every move. Widely embraced as the G.O.A.T. in women’s gymnastics, Simone’s day 1 performance was nothing short of spectacular. Biles posted an all-around score of 59.300 on the strength of session-high scores on vault (15.700), balance beam (14.450) and floor exercise (14.800). She was third on bars with a 14.350. After posting the 15.700 on vault with her Yurchenko double pike, Biles followed with a Cheng that scored 14.900, giving her the overall lead in the vault with an average of 15.300.

At the ripe old age of 26, Simone Biles has returned to elite competition with her sights set clearly on making the U.S. team for the Paris 24 Olympic Games. She left no doubt who the clear favorite is to lead Team USA. Her journey continues here in San Jose on Sunday afternoon.
