All three Utah Valley University wrestlers who entered Saturday’s Senior freestyle competition at the City of Sassari International Tournament in Italy won silver medals.

Bringing home silver medals were Taylor LaMont of Mapleton, Utah, Grant LaMont of Mapleton, Utah and Matt Findlay of Draper, Utah.

For Taylor LaMont, it was his second medal of the weekend, after winning a Junior Greco-Roman gold medal on Friday. Taylor LaMont scored a pin over Great Britain and technical falls over Italy and Spain. His only loss came to a Korean wrestler by a 3-1 margin. LaMont was a freshman this year for UVU.

Grant LaMont scored a pair of technical falls over Italy and Israel, then beat Spain by a 10-4 decision. His only loss came to a Korean by technical fall. Grant LaMont was a redshirt freshman this past season for UVU.

Findlay, a UVU freshman this year, won by technical fall over Romania and by pin over Malta, with a close 8-7 loss to a Canadian opponent.

This concluded a two-day event which featured men’s freestyle, Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle action on both the Junior and Senior levels. Based upon points scored in Greco-Roman by Taylor LaMont on Friday, the USA was third in the Greco-Roman standings with 10 points, behind first-place Italy with 42 points and second place Korea with 33 points.
