Alyvia Fiske (Napa, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on May 14, 2019.
Fiske dominated in two tournaments last weekend at Women’s Nationals in Irving, Texas, to earn spots on the 2019 Junior and U23 World Teams at 72 kg.
In the Junior tournament, Fiske opened with a pair of 10-0 tech falls. In the semifinals, she bested Alexis Gomez with a 13-6 decision to move onto the best-of-three finals series, where she faced 2019 WCWA champion for Missouri Baptist Dymond Guilford.
In the first bout, Fiske shut out 2018 Junior World Team member (76 kg) Guilford with a 6-0 win. To close out the series, Fiske scored a late takedown to win the second match, 4-4, on criteria.
With the victory, Fiske earned her second-consecutive bid to the Junior World Championships.
Two days later, the California native entered the U23 World Team Trials, where she put up another dominating performance, rattling off three shutout technical falls to land a spot in the best-of-three finals.
For the U23 spot, Fiske faced off against 2018 Junior Fargo runner-up Jerzie Estrada.
Fiske put away the first match with a fall in 3:56 and went on to win the next one with a 4-0 decision.
Throughout the two tournaments, a total of 10 matches, Fiske only surrendered 10 points to her opponents.
Just a few weeks earlier, Fiske won the 2019 Senior U.S. Open, claiming a spot in Final X, where she can potentially make her third World Team of the year.
