2027 Senior World Team Procedures Approved In Olympic Weights

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – USA Wrestling has approved and posted its procedures to determine the Senior World Team in the 18 Olympic weight classes for the 2027 season.

A distinct set of procedures is established for each Olympic discipline—men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. These procedures were developed and approved by the Sport Committee for each discipline, then received final approval from the USA Wrestling Board of Directors.

All three Olympic disciplines will determine their Senior World Team in the Olympic weight classes—six weights per discipline—at the U.S. Open Championships in Las Vegas, Nevada, in April 2027. This is a significant procedural update from the 2026 Senior World Team selection process.

Senior-level athletes and coaches in these disciplines are asked to review the procedures closely and follow up with USA Wrestling with any clarifying questions.

Notable items to reference in the procedures include:

The Senior World Team in the 18 Olympic weight classes will be decided earlier in the selection process than the 12 non-Olympic weight classes
The World Team Trials tournament for the 18 Olympic weight classes will be held in April 2027 at the U.S. Open Championships; the 12 non-Olympic weight classes will not be contested at the U.S. Open Championships
Criteria for individuals who qualify for the World Team Trials tournament in the 18 Olympic weight classes are outlined for each discipline
An open entry Last Chance Qualifier will be held in April 2027 prior to the World Team Trials tournament in the 18 Olympic weight classes, with the Last Chance Qualifier champions earning a place in the field at the World Team Trials tournament

2027 Senior World Team Trials procedures for the 12 non-Olympic weight classes will be provided by USA Wrestling at a later date.
